To address this growing Ukraine fatigue among the Republican electorate, the GOP-led organization Defending Democracy Together launched
a pro-Ukrainian campaign this week aimed at Republicans skeptical of funding the war. The campaign, called Republicans for Ukraine, will dedicate $2 million to persuade GOP voters to stand with Kyiv.
The campaign will coincide with the first GOP presidential primary debate and the coming fight in Congress over aid. Sendak at the Center for European Policy Analysis said that such initiatives could explain to Americans why it’s in their interest to continue funding Ukraine’s fight.
“There’s an assumption that Americans are going to continually understand why we’re teeing up this much money, why we’re making these investments, why this is so important. It’s absolutely critical that people in government remind Americans and inform Americans why,” Sendak said. “I do feel like the West and the U.S. have lost the messaging.”
